Sometimes people are so appalled by the F word. Yet some people use the F word like it is simply a precursor to their speech. “Yeah, so you know that F-in guy was so…” or “hey, where the F are my keys?”. Necessary? Perhaps, if you are trying to make a statement that you are a) Guido from the Bronx, b) angry, and loud about it c) intentional in your speak.

But what about the C word. CANCER.

To me, and to many others, who have endured it themselves or via family or friends, hearing the C word makes you cringe. It’s far worse to me then hearing the F word and carries much more annotation. Because the C word is a bad word. The C word takes human lives, it ruins healthy bodies, it scars people physically and emotionally.

Sure we have a choice about how we deal with the C word. If it has not touched your life or anyone close to you, you can simply avoid the topic. Because who really wants to sit around talking about such a nasty disease that has had such far-reaching and devastating effects on children to adults, of all races and genders, resulting in many, many deaths. Or if it has touched your life in some way maybe you avoid discussion for the same previous mentioned reasons or because you choose to be in denial and think if you do not talk about it, it will magically go away.

For now, the C word is not going anywhere. Everywhere you turn there it is. When you least expect it, BAM it’s in your own body or those closest to you. You hear the stories of those who are most popular and famous. You read the headlines of another life lost to the C word. You hear about it from all the groups and organizations that are trying to change things for the better.

Since you cannot completely avoid the C word or make it go away, perhaps you can learn about it. Perhaps you can find a way to help eradicate it. Many people support various organization’s that fund cancer research, awareness and education. Many do walks/runs or other forms of fundraising activities to gather funds. These people give their time and efforts for an important cause.

Until cancer is…

  1. understood by everyone (Education & Awareness) and
  2. wiped out completely (a cure is found or prevention allows for cancer to not exist)

…more needs to be done.

My blog partner, Darren is doing his part by running in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Run For The Cure. He certainly has other things to do that day, he certainly could find many reasons to not help this worthy cause. But he is choosing to help make a difference. Because as he says, he hopes for a future where our children and their children do not have to face cancer. I hope you will choose to help too and offer your support with a donation of any amount to encourage Darren’s efforts!

Together we can make a difference!

Donate here!

Though I do not use the F word, unless very, very compelled to do so, today I will say “hey cancer… FUCK you!”.

And now I will go to my inbox to await the many comments and thoughts about my use of the F word, in public no less! It’s still not as bad as the C word!
